“The participation of the spine can improve power and increase resiliency to prevent injury. The absence of spinal integration impedes performance and increases the chance of injury. When propelling the body or absorbing impact the forces are distributed through the number of joints participating. In movements such as reaching, propelling one-self into space or ipact of landing, the number of joints participating will share the forces. If the spine is rigid, more stress goes into the knees, ankles, shoulders, and elbows, and the rigidity of the spine creates more shock into the spine itself.”
